Inorder to make more contributions to the society and, at the same time, satisfymy keen interest in science, I am looking forward to beginning my graduatestudy. I plan to study for Ph.D. in Biochemistry at Case Western ReserveUniversity with special interests in metabolism, macromolecular synthesis, andprotein crystal growth. I have had plentiful preparations. First, when being anundergraduate in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Tsinghua University,I got very extensive and intensive education. I took many courses on chemistryand the related subjects, and earned high scores for most of them. Second, mymajor, Polymer, can be put into good use in Biochemistry programs becausePolymer is closely related with biological Macromolecule. Third, I have workingexperience that enriches my theory and laboratory skills.

From 1990 to now, I have been engaged as an Assistant Engineer by theResearch institute, Beijing Yanshan Petrochemical Corporation (RIBYPC)。 In thefirst year, I was in charge of a 5-litre reactor for polymerization ofCarboxylated Butadiene-Styene Latex. Then I was transferred to another researchgroup to synthesize PET/PHB copolymer, a kin of polyester, which has theproperty of Liquid Crystal. I am the assistant head of the group. We can preparethe novel polymer with high molecule weight and excellent property in a 2-litrestainless steel reactor. During this monomers, with purity of more than 99.99%；this made my leader very satisfied.

More than four years of working experiences expand my capacity. I oftenmake use of NMR, X-ray, DSC and other instrumental methods for research. I succeeded and was admitted by the Department of Biochemistry andMolecular Biology in Peking University, which ranks first in biological scienceeducation and research in China and has raised many scholars including membersof Chinese Academy of Sciences. In the first three years in university, mycurriculum has a broad range, covering both natural and humanity sciences, aswell as putting emphasis not only on biological sciences but also on closelyrelated courses. I have dedicated my energy to my study and have received acomplete, profound and strict training in biological sciences with the combinedstrength of individual and professors' help. Playing basketball is also a solidpart of my campus life. I am an active member in the basketball team of theCollege of Life Sciences in Peking University. 当然，选择X并不仅仅是由于X无可比拟的优越性，还有一个原因便是自身的性格因素。我是一个活泼开朗、阳光率直的女孩，对于新鲜的事物总是充满了好奇，喜欢在各种各样的挑战中不断超越自己。我爱音乐从黑白琴键下淙淙流出的写意，也爱篮球场上行云流水的酣畅淋漓。所以在高中时，我担任班中的文艺委员、学校的音乐社社长以及女子篮球队队长。虽然我是女生，但我对电脑也有着非同寻常的喜爱，在初中毕业后的暑假，我特意去了电脑学校学习了VisualBasic编程语言。在很小的时候，我就能掌握比同龄人多很多的字词。凭借着语言天赋，我又在假期中学习了大学韩语教材的第一册。对我来说学习永远是件快乐的事，因为我总能在其中体味到那种不断充实自己、超越自己的满足感。

Dear x,Since I was young I maintained a keen interest in different types of art,as photography, making the postcards, flower arrangement, but mostly I likeddancing, drawing and painting what Ive started to learn when I was 5 years oldwith my parents who are the choreographers with some drawing and paintingskills.

At the age of 11 Ive been spotted by my teacher as creative student withthe best capability to harmonize the colours in the class. And therefore heasked for my parents to transfer me to high school of art.

These two and a half year in art school challenged my creative potential inpainting and sculpture lessons, but drawing and modeling I have enjoyed themost, because even now I still love to see how I can start from drawing point bypoint, and after line by line with solving some math problems and makingeverything narrowly, till the end, when I get the results which is yourimagination made into reality on the paper, and it gives me thesatisfaction.

Unfortunately I didn???t have a possibility to finish that school, becauseof my parent divorce, I moved to other school in the other city with my mother.Despite all these problems Ive never stopped drawing and painting. My sparetime after school has been filled with a lot of art classes, from painting withcomputer to mixed media. Now I have improved my IT skills and I can work withsuch the programs, as PHOTOSHOP, MS OFFICE and learning with CAD.

Also I have had an opportunity to be a member of senate. This let me todevelop my patience in pursuance of the best results in organizing some eventsand shows in my school, and even in the other city schools. I always try to beenthusiastic and find I get on well with other people, enjoy meeting newpersonalities and experiencing new surroundings. My determination to study engineering comes from my desire to seek a challenge. In life, there seems to be no bigger challenge than to learn and find out how things work. In our modern world, engineering plays a big role in the foundations of technology and knowledge and this is what I am interested in.

As my year 12 progressed, my interest in science and Maths, particularly Physics developed. Studying Physics at Advanced level allows me to think about how things move and react to forces and how these properties can be used in solving both practical and theoretical situations. Maths interests me as it develops my problem solving skills, allowing me to apply familiar concepts to unfamiliar situations. My enthusiasm towards these subjects encouraged me to take up AS Further Maths. In doing so, I hope to expand my knowledge to achieve a level of understanding satisfactory to a potential degree level student. In addition to Physics and Maths, I am also studying Biology which provides me with the opportunity to develop my practical skills as I am required to work within groups. My communication skills have been put to the test during these lessons and I have proved many times that I am a team player.

After much research, I decided to attend taster courses at City University and Queen Mary University of London to experience what engineering involves. These informative taster courses offered me a unique chance to understand and to observe different areas of engineering which subsequently led me to the decision to pursue mechanical engineering. Its ability to allow me to see how things work fascinates me and furthermore, as mechanical engineering is a diverse field, it will allow me to learn and use many skills which can be transferred onto many employment opportunities.

Although I have enjoyed the challenge that my school-based work has given me, I have always sought to extend my knowledge. Recently, I built a computer. I discovered how each component is connected and how one energy source is converted into another. This has allowed me to apply the theory I learn within the curriculum to real situations. Furthermore, I was able to see how the components fit together by taking apart unwanted pieces from my old computer.

I have always been willing to give my time to take part in activities such as volunteering. I once raised money for the Marie Curie foundation. During this period, I improved my communication skills and confidence as I met and talked to many members of the community. I found that this experience was rewarding and fulfilling. I am a trusted member of my year group and when asked to be an ambassador for my sixth form, I accepted. This experience allowed me to demonstrate my organisation and communicational skills as I was required to confidently guide and talk to many potential students to the college. In addition, throughout my academic career, I have played an active role in a variety of different extracurricular activities. I am an adept musician and passed my grade 4 examinations in flute. Although I have decided to discontinue the examinations, every year during events such as Chinese New Year, I play the flute for my local Chinese community.

I believe that success as an engineer in a modern society requires a combination of management, communication and business skills. Therefore, with my previous experiences, focused attitude and will for success, I have the ability and motivation to meet the demands of studying at degree level. The prospect of studying engineering excites me, and I feel confident that I will make contributions to university life.
